The short answer

The flight from Teterboro to Martha's Vineyard takes about 45 minutes in a light jet, and a one-way charter usually costs between about $7,000 and $13,000, because the aircraft normally flies back empty. The airport runs its own FBO around the clock and charges a landing fee of $3.00 per 1,000 pounds, but its main runway is 5,504 feet, nearly 800 feet shorter than Nantucket's. What most people don't know: the control tower is open until 10 pm in summer but closes at 5 pm from November 1 to May 14, and the airport's curfew is only a request, because federal law stops it from restricting hours.

How long is the flight from Teterboro to Martha's Vineyard?

Estimates. On a flight this short most of the time is taxi, climb and descent, so the categories differ by only a few minutes. Summer arrival sequencing can add more than the aircraft choice saves. Larger jets are rarely the right fit for a 5,504-foot runway and a short hop.

How much does a private jet from Teterboro to Martha's Vineyard cost?

Estimated ranges as of October 2026, in US dollars, including the 7.5% federal excise tax. These are estimates from published hourly rates, not quotes.

Turboprop$4,500 to $8,500$5,000 to $16,000

What goes into the price

On a 45-minute trip the flight itself is a small part of the bill. The aircraft that brings you to the island usually has to fly back to New York empty, and fly out empty again to collect you. A one-way trip therefore costs close to a same-day round trip.

The rest is the usual:

  • the 7.5% federal excise tax and a $5.30 per-passenger segment fee in 2026
  • handling at Teterboro and the FBO on the island
  • catering
  • landing and ramp fees at Martha’s Vineyard (below)

Martha’s Vineyard’s published fees. The airport bills landing fees through Vector Airport Systems, assessed when the aircraft departs:

  • aircraft of 4,001 to 6,000 lb: a flat $15
  • aircraft over 4,000 lb: $3.00 per 1,000 lb of maximum takeoff weight

A 17,000-pound light jet works out at about $51. Ramp fees are charged per calendar day to the FBO, and the first day can be waived with a minimum fuel purchase. The amounts are shown as an image on the airport’s page, so Jake asks the FBO for them when he books. Jet A was listed at $10.34 a gallon on October 6, 2026, subject to change.

What makes this route cheaper or more expensive

Day and time. Summer weekends and holidays are when aircraft are scarcest, which is broker experience and not a published statistic. A midweek or morning trip leaves more room to position the aircraft.

Season. The airport’s summer was busy in 2026. The Vineyard Gazette reported 24,450 tower contacts from non-commercial aircraft between June and August, a five-year peak, and the airport director said he saw “a lean toward corporate, private travel charters.”

Aircraft size. The 5,504-foot runway favours a turboprop, a light jet or a midsize jet. A larger aircraft costs more per hour and gains nothing on a 45-minute hop.

Empty legs on this route

Because aircraft often fly to the island full and return empty, empty legs happen on this route. That follows from how the trips are flown and isn’t a published statistic. Charter Jet One’s figure for the saving is up to 75%.

Two illustrative examples:

  • Northbound. A light jet is heading empty to the Vineyard to collect a family on Sunday morning. You could fly up with it.
  • Southbound. A midsize jet has dropped a group on the island and is going back to Teterboro empty. You could fly down with it.

These show how empty legs arise. They aren’t flights for sale, and they follow the operator’s timing and can change at short notice.

Departing from Teterboro

Teterboro is about 12 miles from Midtown, roughly 22 minutes in free-flow traffic. Its runways are 6,997 and 6,014 feet, and it has FBOs from Jet Aviation, Atlantic and Signature. The airport asks for voluntary restraint between 11 pm and 6 am. On a daytime trip to the island that doesn’t matter.

Arriving on Martha’s Vineyard

The airport. Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY) is in West Tisbury, about 3 miles south of Vineyard Haven in a straight line. By road it is roughly 6 miles and 12 to 14 minutes without traffic to either Vineyard Haven or Edgartown.

Runways. There are two:

  • 6/24, 5,504 feet long and 100 feet wide
  • 15/33, 3,327 feet long and 75 feet wide

Taxiway D, from runway 6 to runway 15, is closed to aircraft with more than nine passenger seats. For unscheduled passenger flights with more than nine seats, the Chart Supplement asks for 24 hours’ prior permission from the airport manager.

The FBO. The airport runs it and lists FBO and fuel service as open 24 hours a day. It has ground power, lavatory and potable water service, a crew lounge, and Type I and Type IV de-icing and anti-icing. The airport is also the only fuel provider on the field.

Ground transport. Taxis wait at Lot A. Jake arranges a car to meet you, which matters on summer weekends.

The tower, the curfew and the noise rules

Tower hours. Vineyard Tower is open 6 am to 10 pm from May 15 to October 31, and 7 am to 5 pm from November 1 to May 14. In winter a late flight arrives after the tower has closed, and Jake plans around daylight.

Curfew. The Chart Supplement lists a voluntary curfew on arrivals and departures between 10 pm and 6 am. The airport’s own noise page says federal law bars it from fining pilots, restricting operating hours or restricting access for noise reasons, so the program depends on notification and voluntary compliance.

Noise abatement. The Chart Supplement asks pilots to avoid residential areas southwest of the airport and to contact airport operations at 508-693-7022 about procedures. Residents can report concerns through the airport’s noise reporting site.

The 2027 dates come from a 2025 newspaper report and may change, so check with the Agricultural Society.

When to book. For summer weekends and holiday periods, ask for a quote as early as you can.

Which aircraft fits best

A turboprop such as a Pilatus PC-12 or a light jet such as a Phenom 300E is the natural choice. Each does the trip in under an hour and fits the runway comfortably. A midsize jet makes sense for seven or eight people or a lot of luggage. For a super-midsize, the operator checks runway performance on the day.

How Jake handles this route

Jake confirms the operator is ARGUS Gold or Platinum rated and asks the FBO for its ramp fees and parking for your dates. He plans winter and late-day trips around the tower’s closing time and the voluntary curfew, and he arranges a car to meet you at the FBO. He often meets clients on the ramp at Teterboro before departure.

How long is the private jet flight from New York to Martha's Vineyard?

About 45 minutes from Teterboro in a light jet, gate to gate. The great-circle distance is about 159 nautical miles, and most of the time goes on taxi, climb and descent.

How much does a private jet to Martha's Vineyard cost?

Roughly $7,000 to $13,000 one way in a light jet and $4,500 to $8,500 in a turboprop, as an estimate for October 2026. A one-way trip costs close to a same-day round trip, because the aircraft usually flies back to New York empty.

When is the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair?

August 13 to 16, 2026 was the most recent. The 2027 fair is listed for August 12 to 15 in West Tisbury. Ask for a quote early for that weekend.
