- 2 h 20 m
- Estimated from, one way
- $8,000
The short answer
Most trips take about two and a half hours in a light jet, and a one-way charter usually costs between about $9,500 and $20,000 depending on the aircraft, the date and whether the jet has to reposition. A light or midsize jet suits most parties of up to six or seven. What most people don't know: the Palm Beach airport changed its code from PBI to DJT in 2026, and its main runway is closed for rebuilding from February to July 2027, so the busiest months of the season run on a shorter runway.

What goes into the price
A quote for this trip is built from a handful of parts. When Jake quotes, he shows you which of them apply.
- Flight time. The operator’s hourly rate multiplied by the time in the air. For this route that is about 2.3 hours in a jet. Typical published base rates run from roughly $3,500 to $6,000 an hour for a light jet and $6,000 to $10,000 for a super-midsize, before tax and fees.
- Positioning. If the aircraft starts somewhere else, or has to fly home empty after dropping you, part of that flying is passed on. It’s the biggest reason one-way prices vary so much.
- Federal excise tax. 7.5% of the amount you pay for the flight, set by 26 U.S.C. 4261.
- Segment fee. $5.30 per passenger for each domestic segment in 2026, set by IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32.
- Airport and handling fees. Landing, ramp and handling fees at both airports. The FBOs at Palm Beach don’t publish theirs, and Atlantic mentions special event fees, so they are quoted per trip.
- Crew costs. If the aircraft waits for you overnight, the crew’s hotel and per diem are added.
- Catering. Whatever you order on board.
- De-icing. On a cold morning at Teterboro, de-icing the aircraft is charged on top.
- Peak days. Aircraft are in short supply around holidays, and operators price accordingly.
As a cross-check, Air Charter Service’s published guide puts a Phenom 300E from New York to Palm Beach at $15,000 to $20,000, before sales taxes. That sits inside the light-jet range above.
What makes this route cheaper or more expensive
Direction and timing matter most. Most charter demand runs south from the New York airports on the way into the winter season and north again in spring. When you fly with the flow, the aircraft often has to fly back empty, and you can expect to pay for some of that. When you fly against it, there’s a better chance an operator already needs the aircraft where you are.
Holiday weeks cost more. Thanksgiving week, Christmas to New Year’s and school break weeks are the most expensive, and the best aircraft sell out first.
The runway project can add cost in 2027. From February to July 2027, the airport’s main runway is closed for rebuilding, and the FAA warns of arrival and departure delays. Delays can mean extra crew time, which can show up in a quote.
Presidential visits can add time. When the President is at Mar-a-Lago, extra screening and airspace rules can add time and cost. More on that below.
Empty legs on this route
An empty leg is a flight the operator has to make with no passengers, either to pick up the next customer or to get back to its base. Operators sometimes sell those seats at a discount. Charter Jet One says empty legs can often be found “at a discount of up to 75% off” the cost of a custom charter, and that the price is for the whole aircraft.
On a route like this, the pattern is easy to picture, though it isn’t something we can cite from a published source. Operators based in the Northeast often end up repositioning south ahead of the Florida season, and north again in spring. A jet that has just brought a family to Palm Beach and needs to be back in New York for its next trip is a candidate for an empty leg heading north.
Two illustrative scenarios:
- A flexible Sunday. A client can leave any time between Saturday and Monday. An operator needs its midsize jet back at Teterboro by Monday morning. The client takes it at a discount in exchange for accepting the operator’s timing.
- A one-way south. A family doesn’t need to return until later in the winter. A jet is heading south empty the same week, and the family travels on it.
Neither is a real flight. Empty legs depend on timing and luck, they can change or disappear at short notice, and the dates are the operator’s, not yours. Charter Jet One has an empty-leg search that only shows results after you enter a trip, so we can’t point you to a specific flight here. Tell Jake you’re flexible and he will look.
Departing from Teterboro
Teterboro (TEB) is about 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan. Free-flow driving time is around 22 minutes from Midtown, 26 minutes from the Upper East Side and Tribeca and 19 minutes from Ridgewood, New Jersey. Add time for traffic, especially on Fridays and before holidays.
Runways. 1/19 is 6,997 feet and 6/24 is 6,014 feet.
Weight limit. No aircraft with an actual gross weight over 100,000 pounds may land, take off or taxi at Teterboro without the Airport Manager’s prior permission. It applies to the weight on the day, not the aircraft’s maximum on paper, and it matters mainly for the largest long-range jets. Nothing in the light to heavy range on this route comes near it.
Noise. Departures from runway 24 are limited to 80 decibels between 10 pm and 7 am. The airport also asks operators for voluntary restraint from non-essential flights between 11 pm and 6 am. Plan for a late-evening departure with the operator.
Terminals. Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and several Signature terminals operate at Teterboro. Your quote tells you which one you’ll use.
Why Teterboro and not somewhere else. It’s the closest to Manhattan and the one most clients use. For clients in Greenwich or Westchester, Westchester County Airport is often easier. Morristown suits western New Jersey. Farmingdale suits Long Island.
Helicopter connections. If you’d rather skip the road, we can arrange a helicopter from the Downtown Manhattan, East 34th Street or West 30th Street heliports. The East 34th Street heliport is closed on weekends, so ask about it early.
Arriving in Palm Beach
The airport is now DJT. The Palm Beach airport, long known as PBI, was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport in 2026. Its FAA identifier became DJT on July 9, 2026, and its passenger code changed from PBI to DJT on August 18, 2026. Your flight plan and your quote may say either. It’s the same airport.
Runways. 10L/28R is 10,001 feet, 14/32 is 6,931 feet with an arrester bed at the end of runway 14, and 10R/28L is 3,214 feet and is limited to small aircraft. The tower is open 24 hours.
FBOs. Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation, Signature Palm Beach North and Signature Palm Beach South. All four public terminals operate around the clock. There is also a private NetJets terminal.
Ground distances (free-flow, no traffic). About 12 minutes to Worth Avenue, 14 minutes to The Breakers, 9 minutes to downtown West Palm Beach, 18 minutes to Manalapan, 23 minutes to the Wellington showgrounds and Delray Beach and 30 minutes to Jupiter. There are three drawbridges onto Palm Beach island, and they open on set schedules that can hold up a car for several minutes. The southernmost, on Southern Boulevard, is the most direct from the airport.
Runway work through summer 2027. The FAA’s construction report describes three phases:
| Dates | What closes | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Sep 1, 2026 to Jan 31, 2027 | Both main runways, Monday to Thursday nights, 11 pm to 6 am | The FAA says the field is effectively closed to aircraft of Design Group II and above during those hours. That includes nearly all business jets. |
| Feb 1 to Jul 31, 2027 | The 10,001-foot runway, continuously | Operations run on the 6,931-foot runway. The FAA warns of arrival and departure delays. |
| Aug 1 to Sep 30, 2027 | Nightly closures again, Monday to Thursday | Same as the first phase. |
The runway project is a good reason to ask Jake about timing early. The late-night closures apply to Monday to Thursday nights only, and we plan around them with the operator. If you must arrive late, an alternate such as Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale Executive or Stuart may work.
Alternates.
| Airport | Longest runway | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Boca Raton (BCT) | 6,276 ft | Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Gulf Stream. Voluntary curfew 10 pm to 7 am. |
| North Palm Beach County General Aviation (F45) | 4,300 ft | Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens. Low weight limits, light jets only. |
| Stuart / Witham Field (SUA) | 5,828 ft | Jupiter Island, Hobe Sound, Stuart. Jet operations discouraged 11 pm to 8 am. |
| Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) | 6,002 ft | A fallback, about 30 nautical miles south. Customs available. |
When to fly, and how far ahead to book
The season. Palm Beach’s winter season runs roughly from November through April, and the town’s population rises from about 9,200 year-round to around 25,000 in season. Atlantic Aviation at the Palm Beach airport names Thanksgiving week (November 25 to 29, 2026) and December 24, 2026 to January 3, 2027 as periods of additional ramp compression.
Events. The Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival runs December 10 to 13, 2026. The Winter Equestrian Festival opens at Wellington on January 6, 2027 and runs through April. The Palm Beach International Boat Show is March 17 to 21, 2027.
Weekend rhythm. Most demand is southbound on Thursday and Friday and northbound on Sunday. That is also when presidential airspace restrictions tend to fall.
How far ahead. For the holiday windows above, ask for a quote as early as you can, because the best aircraft are taken first. Outside them, a few days is workable, but you will have fewer choices.
Weather. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with the peak in mid-August to mid-October. In winter, de-icing at Teterboro is the thing to allow for on cold mornings.
What most people don’t know about this route
Teterboro is a security gateway to Palm Beach. When the President is at Mar-a-Lago, the FAA imposes a temporary flight restriction around the airport: a 10-nautical-mile core and a 30-nautical-mile outer ring. During those periods, private flights into the airport must originate from, or stop for TSA screening at, one of five gateways: Westchester (HPN), Teterboro (TEB), Washington Dulles (IAD), Orlando (MCO) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
Because Teterboro is on that list, a flight from Teterboro can still go nonstop. Flights from most other cities have to make a screening stop first. What it means for you:
- The operator has to register with the TSA at least 24 hours before departure.
- Everyone on board, and the catering, is screened before departure. It usually takes around 15 minutes, but it can take an hour, and the whole party must be there before screening begins.
- Screening runs from 8 am to 5 pm local time, with the last slot at about 4:45 pm.
- Flexjet advises arriving 60 to 90 minutes before departure.
- After screening, the aircraft must keep a discrete transponder code and stay in radio contact, with no stops on the way.
- Flexjet notes the restrictions usually fall on Thursday or Friday late afternoon and Sunday evening, which is exactly when many people fly.
Extra costs and cancellations. Operators may pass on extra flight time, crew duty and gateway costs. Ask what the operator’s terms say about restrictions announced close to your trip, and get any waiver in writing.
Mar-a-Lago airspace. Since October 2025 a standing restriction has barred aircraft from operating within 1 nautical mile of Mar-a-Lago below 2,000 feet without air traffic control authorization, and eastbound departures from the airport have been turned to the northeast. The FAA proposed making it permanent in September 2026.
Baggage, pets and ground transport
Baggage. Light jets seat six or seven but have limited baggage space, and a party with golf clubs or several large bags often needs a midsize jet. Tell Jake what you’re bringing.
Pets. Florida doesn’t require a health certificate for a pet dog or cat travelling with its owner, but any dog or cat three months or older needs proof of a current rabies vaccination. Operators set their own pet policies, so we confirm that the aircraft you’re offered accepts yours.
Ground transport. We book a car at both ends, waiting for you at the terminal when you land.
Which aircraft fits best
For most trips on this route, a light or midsize jet is the right size. They fly it nonstop in about two and a half hours, they use the smaller runways, and they are the best value.
Size up to a super-midsize if you have eight or more people, a lot of luggage or want a larger cabin. The time saved over a midsize is small, so it’s a comfort choice, not a speed choice.
Size down to a turboprop or very light jet only for a small party travelling light and wanting to save money. The turboprop adds about an hour to the trip.
How Jake handles this route
Teterboro to Palm Beach is the route Jake knows best. He sources the aircraft, checks that the operator is ARGUS Gold or Platinum rated, and books the cars at both ends. He often meets clients on the ramp at Teterboro before departure.
He also watches the things that change from week to week on this route: the runway schedule at Palm Beach, the late-night closures, the presidential restrictions and the holiday ramp pressure. When something affects your trip, he tells you before you ask.
Questions people ask about Teterboro to Palm Beach
How long is the flight from Teterboro to Palm Beach?
About 2 hours 30 minutes in a light jet and about 2 hours 15 minutes in a super-midsize or heavy jet, gate to gate. The distance is about 902 nautical miles, and the extra speed of a larger jet saves only 15 minutes or so on a route this short.
How much does a private jet from New York to Palm Beach cost?
Roughly $9,500 to $20,000 one way in a light jet and $12,000 to $25,000 in a midsize jet, as an estimate for October 2026. The range is wide because a one-way trip may include repositioning the aircraft, and holiday weeks cost more.
Is it cheaper to fly round trip or one way?
A round trip usually costs less than two one-way trips, because the aircraft doesn't have to fly empty in one direction. Whether it helps depends on when you return: if the aircraft waits for you, you may pay for crew overnights, and if it flies home and comes back, you pay for positioning.
Which airport should I fly into near Palm Beach?
The Palm Beach airport (DJT, formerly PBI) is the closest to Palm Beach island, about 5 to 6 miles from The Breakers and Worth Avenue. Boca Raton (BCT) is closer for Boca, Delray Beach and Gulf Stream, and North Palm Beach County General Aviation (F45) and Stuart (SUA) are closer for Jupiter and Hobe Sound.
Did Palm Beach International Airport change its name?
Yes. It is now President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the FAA and ICAO codes DJT and KDJT since July 9, 2026, and the passenger code DJT since August 18, 2026. Many people still say PBI, and we will quote it either way.
What is a presidential TFR and does it affect my flight?
A temporary flight restriction is airspace that closes to most traffic when the President is at Mar-a-Lago, and it can add a security screening step to a private flight. Teterboro is one of five approved screening gateways, so a flight from Teterboro can still go nonstop to Palm Beach, but you may need extra time at the airport.
Can I fly from Teterboro to Palm Beach late at night?
Be careful: the Palm Beach airport is effectively closed to most charter jets from 11 pm to 6 am on Monday to Thursday nights through January 31, 2027, while the runways are resurfaced. Teterboro also asks operators for voluntary restraint between 11 pm and 6 am, and it limits departure noise at night.
How far ahead should I book a private jet to Palm Beach?
For the holiday weeks, book as early as you can, because the best aircraft go first. Atlantic Aviation at Palm Beach flags extra ramp pressure from November 25 to 29, 2026 and from December 24, 2026 to January 3, 2027. For ordinary dates a few days is workable, but you will have fewer aircraft to choose from.
Can I bring my dog on a private jet to Palm Beach?
Usually yes, if the operator allows pets on the aircraft you're offered. Florida does not require a health certificate for a pet dog or cat travelling with its owner, but any dog or cat three months or older needs proof of a current rabies vaccination.
Is there customs at Palm Beach?
Yes, for international arrivals. The airport is a US port of entry, and both Signature terminals and Jet Aviation advertise on-site customs. For a domestic flight from Teterboro you don't clear customs on either end.
Do I need a bigger jet for six passengers and luggage?
Six people with golf clubs or several large bags are usually better in a midsize jet than a light jet. A light jet seats six or seven on paper, but its baggage space is limited, and a midsize jet costs only moderately more on a route this short.
